Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.
Admissions Process and Requirements
Prospective students must submit their applications online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The portal will close at 4 pm on the application deadline.
Applicants are required to provide a statement or self-declaration of their English proficiency. They must also list two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Academic and Language Proficiency
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may include scores from national tests such as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International students can also use scores from exams like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English language proficiency scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination are also required.
Selection Criteria
Admission decisions will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The committee will evaluate candidates’ suitability for the program.
