IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .

Admissions Overview

Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, are eligible. Applications are being processed for the academic year 2026-27. Interested candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will assess candidates on aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.

Eligibility and Entrance Exams

While IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance, certain entrance exam scores may be required. These include:

  • For PhD and PG Programs: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
  • International Examinations: Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.

Candidates must also submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

The selection process involves an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview panel will evaluate their suitability for the program.
