The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. Foreign nationals can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , by 4 PM IST.
Eligibility and Application
Non-Indian nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
Admission Requirements
Admission requirements may include scores from examinations like Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International applicants can also submit scores from Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English language proficiency test scores are also mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. IIT Delhi will also consider scores from other recognized language tests.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. This process evaluates a candidate’s suitability for advanced study and research at the institute.
