IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible.

Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

Admission Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. Candidates are also required to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will evaluate the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills, according to official notifications.

Depending on the program, applicants may need to submit scores from specific entrance examinations. These include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE

For international applicants, scores from examinations like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant department. Additionally, proof of English language proficiency may be required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations.
