Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Admission Details
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27.
The application portal will close at 4 PM on March 30, 2026. Interested candidates can submit their applications online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
According to IIT Delhi, referees will be asked to assess candidates on their:
- Overall aptitude
- Proficiency in the chosen field
- Potential for research
- Independent thinking skills
- Oral and written English proficiency
Eligibility Criteria and Testing
While the primary admission process focuses on academic merit and interview performance, certain standardized test scores may be required or beneficial.
For PhD and PG programs, scores from national-level Indian examinations such as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scheme may be considered.
International applicants can also submit scores from global examinations like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Furthermore, proficiency in English must be demonstrated through scores from recognized tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations, or any other equivalent language proficiency test.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Applicants with a strong academic record will be invited to interview with a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
