IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals can apply for the academic year 2026-27 through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility and Requirements
Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Academic and Language Proficiency Scores
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from national or international examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International applicants may also submit scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English language proficiency must be demonstrated. Acceptable test scores include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination. Applicants must also submit a self-declaration of their English proficiency.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will receive an invitation to interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. This interview process assesses a candidate’s suitability for advanced study and research at IIT Delhi.
