IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27.
Admissions Overview
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. The application portal will remain open until 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can submit their applications via the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration confirming their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
While specific academic requirements vary by program, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These can include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
In addition, proof of English language proficiency is required. Accepted test scores include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Interview Process
IIT Delhi will conduct admissions based on candidate performance during an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant department. The interview committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for the chosen program.
