Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application window closes on March 30, 2026, at 4:00 PM IST . Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They will need to provide a self-declaration of their English language skills. Two referees will be required to submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Admission Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also acceptable.
Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. IIT Delhi will also consider other recognized language tests.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant disciplines. This process evaluates candidates for their suitability for advanced studies and research.
Academic Year
Admissions are for the academic year 2026-27 . Interested international students should ensure they meet all specified criteria before applying.
