IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. Applications are being accepted for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Application Deadline and Portal

The application portal for foreign nationals will close on March 30, 2026 , at 4:00 PM. Interested students can apply online at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility Criteria

Non-Indian nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Candidates must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency.

Application Requirements

Applicants must provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English language skills.

Depending on the program, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. Accepted tests include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE
  • Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
  • Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)

English Proficiency Tests

Proof of English language proficiency is also required. Accepted tests include:

  • TOEFL
  • IELTS
  • TOEIC
  • OPI
  • OPIC
  • Cambridge English Examination
  • Other recognized language tests

Admission Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant department.
