IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs . The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Foreign nationals are eligible. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must provide a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. The application portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 .
Academic Qualifications and Entrance Exams
Admission to PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.
Furthermore, candidates must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will grant admission based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The committee will evaluate their overall suitability for the program.
