IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs for the 2026-27 academic year. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Admission Process

Applicants must provide a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These can include Indian national tests such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE).

International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate English proficiency through tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

The final admission decision for both PhD and PG programs will be based on the candidate’s performance in an interview. Those with strong academic backgrounds will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline.
