Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Applications are being accepted for the 2026-27 academic year . Interested candidates should visit the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in to submit their applications.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of their English proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be contacted to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests to assess eligibility. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
For international applicants, scores from tests such as the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be required.
English language proficiency must be demonstrated through scores from tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be accepted.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on the candidate’s performance in an interview. Candidates with a strong academic background will receive an invitation to interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
