IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for International Students Open

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m.

Admissions Overview

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27.

Interested candidates must submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal will close precisely on March 30, 2026.

Application Requirements

Applicants are required to provide a statement of English proficiency. They must also submit the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters.

The notification states that referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. Oral and written English proficiency will be evaluated.

Depending on the program, applicants may need to submit scores from national examinations. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.

In addition to academic qualifications and recommendations, applicants must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will conduct interviews for shortlisted candidates. Admission will be based on performance in these interviews.

The interview committee will comprise faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. Candidates with strong academic records are typically invited for this stage.
