IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for International Students Open

IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs . The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are open for the 2026-27 academic year .

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Interested candidates must submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

Application Requirements

Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration confirming their English proficiency. They also need to name two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be contacted to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE

International test scores are also accepted. These include:

  • Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
  • Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)

Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant department. This interview panel assesses the candidate’s suitability for the program.
