IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application window closes on March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes candidates holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. Candidates also need to provide contact details for two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referees will be asked to evaluate candidates on their overall aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and oral and written English abilities, according to the official notification.

Admission Requirements

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores are also considered, such as the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

In addition to academic and standardized test scores, applicants must submit results from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations, among others.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Those with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant academic discipline. The interview committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
