IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.

Admission Details

Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) status, are eligible to apply. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.

Academic Eligibility

Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.

International students may submit scores from exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Proficiency in English must be demonstrated through tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The committee will assess their suitability for the program.
