Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students. The institute is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs for the academic year 2026-27. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 PM .
Admissions Overview
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are processed through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will be asked to assess a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, and English language skills.
Depending on the program, applicants may need to submit scores from national entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) exam, University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English language proficiency must be demonstrated. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs for international students is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline.
