The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students pursuing PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m.
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in. These admissions are for the academic year 2026-27.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Academic Qualifications and Scores
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International students may also submit scores from Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
In addition to academic qualifications, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted test scores include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs for international students will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant department.
