IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for International Students Open

IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can submit their applications online at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility and Requirements

The programs are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who can write recommendation letters.

These referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific skills, research potential, independent thinking, and English language abilities. The official notification states, “The referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s overall aptitude, proficiency in chosen field, potential for research and independent thinking and proficiency in oral and written English.”

Academic and Language Proficiency

Admission may require scores from national entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International students can also use scores from exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

English language proficiency must be demonstrated. Candidates typically need scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.

Admission Process

IIT Delhi will grant admission based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The institute will inform candidates about the interview process after reviewing applications.
