IIT Delhi is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can submit their applications online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
The application window is open for admissions for the academic year 2026-27. The portal closes at 4 pm on March 30, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. They also need to provide names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates on overall aptitude. They will also comment on proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking will be evaluated. English language proficiency, both oral and written, will also be assessed by referees.
Admission Process and Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from national entrance exams. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) score may also be considered.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Students with strong academic records will be invited. The interview will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
