IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27.
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They will also need to provide the names of two individuals who can offer recommendation letters.
These referees will be asked to evaluate a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific skills, research potential, and English language abilities. This information is detailed on the official IIT Delhi international admissions website.
Admission Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from national entrance exams such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The DST INSPIRE program is also recognized.
International standardized test scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English language proficiency must be demonstrated. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Those with strong academic records will receive an invitation to an interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interviews.
