The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Prospective students can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Requirements
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will be contacted to provide feedback on the candidate’s aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, independent thinking abilities, and English language skills.
Academic and Language Proficiency Scores
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from national and international examinations. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores such as the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered. Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview committee will assess candidates for their suitability for advanced study and research.
