IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for International Students Open

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. Foreign nationals can apply. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.

Admissions Overview

Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27. Eligible candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes on March 30, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

Non-Indian nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to provide a self-declaration of their English language skills. Applicants must also name two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Reference Letters

Referees will assess candidates. They will comment on the applicant’s aptitude. Referee evaluations will cover field proficiency and research potential. Independent thinking skills will also be evaluated. Referee comments on English proficiency are required.

Required Test Scores

Candidates may need to submit scores from national or international tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other options are Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The DST INSPIRE program scores are also accepted. For international applicants, scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may be required.

English Proficiency Tests

Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, and OPIC. The Cambridge English Examination is also an option. Other language tests may be accepted.

Selection Process

Admission is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The committee assesses overall suitability for the program.
