IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for International Students Open

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are open for foreign national students for the 2026-27 academic year. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.

International students, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Prospective students can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. This statement acts as a self-declaration. Candidates must also provide the names of two referees. These referees will be asked to submit recommendation letters.

Referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude and field proficiency. They will also assess research potential and English language skills. This information is detailed in the official notification.

Eligibility and Scores

Admission may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also mentioned.

For international students, scores from Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may be required. English language proficiency test scores are also necessary. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will admit students based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records receive interview invitations. An interview committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the assessment.
