IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application window closes on March 30, 2026, at 4 PM . Prospective students can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

Admission Eligibility

Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They will need to provide a self-declaration of their language skills.

Application Requirements

Applicants must list two referees. These individuals will provide recommendation letters. Referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English communication skills. The notification details these requirements.

Academic and Test Score Requirements

Submission of scores from specific entrance examinations may be required. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.

International students must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview will be conducted by a faculty committee from the relevant academic discipline. The committee assesses the candidate’s suitability for the program.
