IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.
Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .
Admission Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This involves submitting a self-declaration of their English language skills. They also need to provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters.
These referees will be contacted to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, subject proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English communication abilities, according to official notifications.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered for admission.
Selection Process
The final admission to IIT Delhi programs will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
Additionally, applicants must submit scores from English proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.
