IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. International students can apply. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 PM .

Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in. Applications are for the academic year 2026-2027.

Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must submit a statement. This statement will detail their English language proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters.

Referees will assess candidates. They will comment on aptitude and chosen field proficiency. Potential for research and independent thought is evaluated. English oral and written proficiency is also reviewed.

Candidates may need to submit scores from specific entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Scores from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) may be required.

The DST INSPIRE program scores are also a potential requirement. These apply to both PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi.

International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. Interviews will be conducted by a faculty committee within the relevant discipline.

Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Applicants must submit scores from tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests are also accepted.
