IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for International Students Open

IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27.

Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, are eligible. Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The application portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must provide a statement of English proficiency. They also need to list two referees who can submit recommendation letters. Referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English language skills.

Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE for PhD and PG programs. International test scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.

Proof of English language proficiency is required. This can be demonstrated through scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

Admission decisions are based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records receive invitations for interviews. These interviews are conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.

The admission process requires a self-declaration of English proficiency and details of two referees for recommendation letters.
