IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for International Students Open

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applications are processed through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal: international.iitd.ac.in .

Admission Process

Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees for recommendation letters. Referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include Indian tests like the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.

International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

Selection Criteria

Admission is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.

Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
