IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applicants can submit their applications online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. The application window closes at 4 pm on March 30, 2026.
Application Requirements
All applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendation letters.
Referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities. This information is detailed in the official notification.
Academic and English Proficiency Tests
To be considered for admission to PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from several examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Proof of English language proficiency is also required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will grant admission based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
