IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .
Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27. Foreign nationals are eligible. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards.
Interested students must submit a statement on their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These letters will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
Admission Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from national entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English language proficiency must be demonstrated. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select students based on their interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview.
The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. This process evaluates candidates’ suitability for research and advanced studies.
