The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline for applications is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to provide a self-declaration of their English language skills.
Application Requirements
The application requires the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. The notification states, “The referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s overall aptitude, proficiency in chosen field, potential for research and independent thinking and proficiency in oral and written English.”
Academic and Test Scores
For PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from national-level Indian entrance examinations. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE). International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.
English proficiency test scores from exams such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination may be required. Applicants must submit scores from these language tests.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will grant admission based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. The interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
