IIT Delhi has opened applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs for international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . International candidates can submit applications through the official IIT Delhi admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility
The programs are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This requires a self-declaration statement.
Candidates must also provide contact details for two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters. Referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills, according to official information.
Required Scores and Tests
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International exams like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be accepted.
English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also fulfill this requirement.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG courses is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
