The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27.
Application Process
Prospective students must apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.
Applicants are required to submit a statement or self-declaration confirming their English language proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters.
These referees will be asked to assess a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities, according to the official notification.
Admission Requirements
Eligibility for IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
International examination scores are also considered:
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Criteria
Admission to IIT Delhi programs will be based on a candidate’s performance in an interview. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
