IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students Open

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can submit their applications online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility and Requirements

The admissions are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must declare their English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. The official notification stated, “The referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s overall aptitude, proficiency in chosen field, potential for research and independent thinking and proficiency in oral and written English.”

Academic and Language Proficiency Scores

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.

Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other equivalent language tests may also be accepted.

Admission Process

IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive an invitation for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The engineering institute’s admission portal for foreign national candidates closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026 .
