IIT Delhi has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. Interested candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website atinternational.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
The programs are open to foreign nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will be contacted to assess candidates’ aptitude. This includes their proficiency in their chosen field and research potential. Recommendations will also cover independent thinking skills and English communication abilities.
Admission Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program scores are also considered.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
