IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs for the 2026-27 academic year. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. Candidates can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website:international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
The institute has opened applications for non-Indian nationals . This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They will need to provide a statement or self-declaration of their English skills. Additionally, applicants must name two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Application Requirements
Referees will evaluate candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and oral and written English abilities. The IIT Delhi admissions notice states that referees’ comments are integral to the evaluation process.
Applicants may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE awards for PhD and PG programs. International exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.
Admission Process
Final admission will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
International students must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be considered.
