The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are being accepted online until March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. The admission portal is available at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of their English proficiency. They also need to list two referees who can provide recommendation letters.
Application Requirements
Referees will evaluate candidates on overall aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. IIT Delhi may require scores from national entrance exams. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International exam scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.
Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. This can be demonstrated through scores from tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Applicants may also be asked to submit scores from other recognized language tests.
Selection Process
Admission is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The interviews will assess candidates’ suitability for advanced studies and research at IIT Delhi.
