IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. Prospective students can apply via the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Requirements
The admissions are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They will need to submit a self-declaration of their English language skills. Additionally, applicants must provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language ability. These assessments are part of the official application notification.
Academic Qualifications and Entrance Exams
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program is also mentioned.
International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic disciplines.
