IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs . The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Applications are being processed for the academic year 2026-27.
The official application portal for international candidates is international.iitd.ac.in . The portal closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026 .
Admission Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide letters of recommendation.
Referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is detailed in the admission notification.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores are also considered. Accepted scores include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.
Selection Process
Final admission will be based on a candidate’s performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited for interviews.
The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. This committee will assess candidates for suitability for the PhD and PG programs.
