Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are accepted until March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.

Application Process and Requirements

Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The application window closes at 4 pm on March 30, 2026. Applicants need to submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

According to the notification, referees will evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. These evaluations are part of the admission review process.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi may require scores from national-level entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.

International examination scores are also considered. Candidates may submit results from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Admission is based on an interview with a faculty committee in the relevant discipline.

Additionally, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. This can be shown through scores from tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. A strong academic record is essential for being invited to the interview stage.
