IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can submit their applications online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Application Process
The programs are open to foreign nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will be contacted to assess candidates’ aptitude. They will comment on the applicant’s field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Admission Requirements
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will base admissions on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. This process aims to evaluate candidates’ suitability for advanced study and research.
