IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions for International Students: Apply by March 30

IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website:international.iitd.ac.in. The application portal closes at 4 p.m. on the deadline date.

Eligibility Criteria

Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to provide a self-declaration of their English language skills.

Application Requirements

Candidates must nominate two referees who will provide recommendation letters. These referees will assess the applicant’s aptitude, subject proficiency, research potential, and English communication skills. The notification states referees will comment on the candidate’s overall aptitude, proficiency in their chosen field, research potential, independent thinking, and oral and written English skills.

Academic Qualifications and Scores

For PhD and PG programs, IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These can include India’s Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International applicants may also submit scores from tests like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

English Proficiency Tests

Applicants must submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.

Admission Process

Admission is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records receive invitations for interviews. These interviews are conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
