Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Admissions Open for International Students
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply for the academic year 2026-27. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applications can be submitted online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .
The application window closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 . Prospective students must demonstrate English proficiency. This requires a self-declaration statement of English language skills.
Application Requirements
Applicants need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters. The notification states referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
To be considered for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from specific standardized tests. These include India’s Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and the DST INSPIRE program. International exam scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.
Additionally, scores from English language proficiency tests are required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. This interview assesses their suitability for advanced study and research at the institute.
