Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website atinternational.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will be contacted to assess the candidate’s aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, independent thinking ability, and English communication skills, according to the admission notification.
Academic Qualifications and Tests
For admission to PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores are also considered. These include results from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English Proficiency Tests
Candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted test scores include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be accepted.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will grant admission based on performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview assesses the candidate’s suitability for the program.
