IIT Delhi PhD/PG Admissions for International Students: Apply by March 30

IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. Prospective students can submit applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website atinternational.iitd.ac.in.

Admission Eligibility

Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to provide a statement or self-declaration of their English skills. The application also requires the names of two referees.

Referee Recommendations

Referees will be contacted to provide feedback on applicant suitability. Their comments will focus on the candidate’s overall aptitude. They will also assess proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking is a key area of evaluation. English language proficiency, both oral and written, will also be considered.

Required Examinations

Applicants may need to submit scores from national and international standardized tests. For PhD and PG programs, these can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also accepted.

International examination scores are also considered. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Additionally, English language proficiency test scores are required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be accepted.

Selection Process

Admission decisions will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. This process allows for direct assessment of a candidate’s suitability for advanced study at IIT Delhi.
