IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline for applications is March 30, 2026, at 4:00 PM . Interested candidates can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Admission Requirements
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scheme. International exam scores like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.
Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
The final selection will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. This process aims to evaluate their suitability for advanced study and research.
The academic session for which admissions are open is 2026-27.
