Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility
Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This requires a self-declaration of English language skills. Candidates must also provide the names of two individuals who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees’ Role
The nominated referees will be contacted. They will assess the applicant’s overall aptitude. They will also comment on their proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking will be evaluated. Referee comments on English oral and written proficiency are required.
Required Test Scores
Submission of scores from national or international standardized tests may be necessary. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) for PhD and PG programs. For international applicants, scores from Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may be considered. Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Applicants with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. An interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The panel will assess candidates’ suitability for the program.
