IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can submit their applications online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Details for International Students
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. The application window closes at 4 pm on March 30, 2026.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to list two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English skills, according to the official notification.
Academic Qualifications and Test Scores
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission will be based on performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview panel will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
