The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Admissions are for the academic year 2026-27.
Application Process
Interested candidates must apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal: international.iitd.ac.in . The portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.
Applicants are required to submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
Admission to PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi may require scores from national-level entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Candidates may also need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline.
The interview committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for advanced study and research.
